Precision AF App Portal Privacy Statement

The development of the Precision AF App is supported by and undertaken within the [School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide (“ University”, “we”, “us”, “our” ). The University has been funded by the Medical Research Future Fund to develop the Precision AF App. The Precision AF App is to improve your understanding of Atrial fibrillation (AF) and guide you through a journey of lifestyle changes essential for good management of AF. 

This Statement outlines how we collect, hold and use your Personal Information, as defined in the Privacy Act 1988  (Cth) when you use the Precision AF App. The University’s Privacy Policy  also governs how we handle Personal Information, including Health Information (“Health Data”).

What information we collect

We collect the following types of Personal Information:

• first name
• email address
• Health Information submitted as part of Precision AF App from the users phones health kit, including:

• Heart rate
• Blood pressure
• Weight
• Daily steps

All Health Information collected through surveys on the Precision AF App is deidentified and replaced with a unique study ID.

We collect the following usage data:

• Analytics data (see below)

Measuring the usage of our platform

The Precision AF App uses the Miroma Project Factory honeycomb (backend) data to collect data to track how our participants interact with the platform.  This data includes the number of visits to the App, the time and date of visits to the platform and its pages, where the user came from, what the user did on the platform and whether the user has completed any activities such completing surveys.

How we collect your Personal Information. including Health Data

We will collect your Personal Information:

• When you register to use the Precision AF App (first name and email address)
• When you input information about yourself and your health
• When you participate in questionnaires
• When you give permission to access your blood pressure, body weight and daily steps from your Google Fit | Apple Health Kit data

How we use your Personal Information, including Health Data

We will use the information identified under the heading ‘what information we collect’ above for the following:

• Personal details (first name and email address) when you register to help setup an account in the Precision AF App which will allow you to track your experiences.
• Health, symptoms and data related to your experiences allow us to provide recommendations to guide you through a journey of lifestyle changes to support good management of AF. This information is also collected for research purposes to evaluate the experiences of people living with AF and effectiveness of different strategies to assist with symptom management.
• Usage, analytics and feedback data are collected for quality improvement purposes and to evaluate the use of the Precision AF App.

How we store and manage your Personal Information, including Health Data

All Personal Information, including Health Data, is deidentified and is stored on trusted servers (which may include third-party servers) (Miroma Project Factory) located in Australia.

We will take reasonable steps to:

• protect your Personal Information securely and to protect it from unauthorised access, misuse, interference, modification, disclosure or loss with protected access and all data is deidentified and anonymous behind a secure login portal.
• ensure all Personal Information, including Health Data collected is accurate, up-to-date and complete;
• destroy, delete or de-identify Personal Information, including Health Data no longer needed or required to be retained by any applicable law, regulation or code applicable to the University on request by emailing precisionafapp@adelaide.edu.au with your Trial ID and reasons for removal/update of data.

How we use your Personal Information, including Health Data

The data collected by the Precision AF App will be and anonymised for research purposes only. All identifying information including your first name and email address will either be removed or obfuscated following download to ensure anonymity for research purposes.  Data will only be treated in this way for research purposes when the research institution complies with relevant data protection requirements and when sufficient ethics approvals have been obtained.

The use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.  

How we disclose your Personal Information, including Health Data

Your Personal Information, including Health Data, may be disclosed to third party IT service providers and third party research partners. It will only be disclosed to and accessed by such third parties to the extent necessary for them to provide their services or conduct the research activity. Your data will be deidentified prior to being disclosed to a third party.

We may also disclose your Personal Information, including Health Data, if required by an applicable law.

Personal Information, including Health Data, will not be used for any other purpose. It will not be transferred to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.

Data breaches

If we become aware of an actual or suspected breach of your Personal Information including Health Data, we will follow the University’s Data Breach Response Plan  referred to in the University’s Privacy Policy .

You may request access to the Personal Information including Health Data we hold about you. We may need to verify your identity before we allow you to access your Personal Information and may refuse access for a legitimate reason.
